The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) Review

Writer: kayleigh lewiskayleigh lewis

After the massive success of ‘Twilight’, next up in the Twilight saga was ‘New Moon’. Like its predecessor ‘New Moon’ was also just as popular. Or at least it was amongst the teens. It was also this film that kickstarted the infamous "Team Edward or Team Jacob" debate amongst the fanbase.

It also introduced the werewolves for the first time in the series despite the hints on the first film.

The story starts off with Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) having a nightmare. As she walks through the meadow in which she and Edward shared on ‘Twilight’, Bella sees her long dead grandmother. She is surprised and asks her grandmother why she is here. That is when Bella finds out that it’s not her grandmother but herself as an old lady.

Bella’s dad Charlie (Billy Burke) wakes her up from her nightmare; she has fallen asleep reading ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which she’s supposed to be reading for class. It’s Bella’s birthday and Charlie gives her a present in which he and her mother brought together. It’s a camera and a scrap book for her to record her last year at high school in.

Trying not to sound ungrateful, she protests weakly about how he and her mother didn’t have to give her anything for her birthday. Charlie insists that they had to get Bella something…and jokes that Bella has a grey hair on her head.

After Bella drives to school she hears on the radio that hikers are going missing in the forest that surrounds Forks. They’re presumed dead. She thinks nothing more of the matter when she sees her friends when she gets to school.

After Edward (Robert Pattinson) arrives, her childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) also arrives to see her. Bella is surprised at Jacob’s sudden change in appearance; he is more masculine and bigger than before. Bella jokes to Jacob about him using steroids and Jacob laughs it off, giving her a dreamcatcher as a present, which is supposed to stop bad dreams.

Bella appreciates the gift and thanks Jacob. It isn’t before long before the rest of Edward’s brothers and sister arrive…and invite Bella to a party later. Bella reluctantly agrees to it.

As I said earlier ‘New Moon’ was popular amongst mainly teenage girls, as with the previous film. Once again most adults avoided it like the plague.

I personally thought it was slightly better than ‘Twilight’ and once again I enjoyed the instrumental soundtrack to this film. I also liked the addition of the werewolves and how they were done in this film in comparison to the vampires even though I’m more of a vampire person than a werewolf person.

However, like with ‘Twilight’, once again the book was better then the film although this was a slight improvement to the first film.
