After MGM had adapted all 14 James Bond books there was nowhere else for them to go with the James Bond films. Or so we thought. It was time for MGM to do its own thing with the Bond films…the first of which is now the iconic and much-loved ‘GoldenEye’.
Armed with a license to kill, only James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) can save the world from a deadly weapon that has fallen into the wrong hands.
Despite me liking the spoof gaming franchise ‘James Pond’ on the MegaDrive back in the day, I was never able to get into the Bond franchise for years. Not until early this year that is. I had heard a lot of good stuff about ‘GoldenEye’ over the years (I’ve also heard a lot about the N64 game too) so I had been interested in watching this. Especially since it wasn’t based on a Bond novel and I was curious to see how MGM would handle it.
There is much to like in this film as well as the action scenes and Pierce Brosnan’s version of Bond. The soundtrack is also pretty decent including the iconic opening title song ‘GoldenEye’ by the late and great Tina Turner.
I’ve even heard that you get to recreate the iconic dam jump opening scene from the film on the N64 game too but as I don’t own the game- yet!- I can’t properly comment on that.
For the start of the modern Bond and Pierce Brosnan era, this is the best of Pierce’s Bond films.
