After the success of ‘The Twilight Saga’ studios were looking for the next major gothic-romance franchise. ‘Fallen’ was a angels-and-demons 6 book saga by Lauren Kate published ten years or so before the first film in the series ‘Fallen’ was released.
I’m currently reading the second book ‘Torment’ and have been enjoying the books so far. I didn’t know that there was a film until a couple of months ago so I thought I’d check it out.
‘Fallen’ starts off with a young girl Luce (Addison Timlin) sent to a reform school called Sword and Cross where she meets a mysterious boy called Daniel (Jeremy Irvine). Little does Luce know that Daniel is a link to her past…and her future as well.
Probably the main reason why I never heard of the ‘Fallen’ film was because it wasn’t very well received by fans and was brushed off as “another ‘Twilight’” by critics.
Personally I liked the ‘Fallen’ film. The acting is better than what we had with ‘Twilight’ and the soundtrack by Mark Isham (from ‘Blade’) is also better too.
However it does have its draw-backs. ‘Fallen’ doesn’t focus on some of the lore of the books. It also was very fast passed as the book was supposed to be a slow burn dark gothic fantasy romance.
Over all, it’s a decent adaptation from book to screen and I wish that they had done the others.
